GOALS

Promote the circular economy in the management of organic waste and by-products generated by the agricultural and agri-food industries of the Macaronesian Region through anaerobic digestion for biogas production and nutrient recycling.
However, certain activities are framed in three specific goals.

The fifity million microdigesters, 132,000 small, medium and large-scale digesters and 700 biomethane plants operating worldwide take advantage of only 1.6 to .2 percent of the global biogas potential

Almost 500,000 tons of animal manure are produced in the Canary Islands each year.

In 2018, 40 273 tons of fertiliziers were improted to the Canary Islands with a value of 6,5M€, which could largely be replaced by organic by-products from livesttock and agribusiness in the island.
