AD4MAC Project

The AD4MAC project (Promotion of the circular economy and renewable energy through anaerobic digestion of organic waste and by-products in Macaronesia) aims to promote the circular economy and the production of renewable energy in agrifood companies and industries in the Macaronesian region through the proper managem

ent of organic waste and by-products. AD4MAC proposes to value these wastes and by-products through anaerobic digestion to produce renewable energy and to recycle nutrients to agriculture thanks to the use of digestate. AD4MAC has 14 partners from 4 different regions and is part of Axis 1 and investment priority 1.b of the Interreg MAC Program 2014-2020, being one of the 67 approved projects of the 181 projects submitted to the second call of the program.

The project includes a series of actions that include preliminary and theoretical studies, experimental tests, demonstration facilities and dissemination actions, which will expand and improve the R&D capabilities of universities and demonstrate to companies the technological options available for the use of waste. This will allow an effective transfer of knowledge and technology to the companies and industries of the region and the continuation and implementation of the results of the project beyond its completion.
